After falling in love with the tangy bite of real French Dijon, we went straight to the source to find an organic Dijon that is true to its namesake. Imported directly from Dijon, this mustard has only 4 ingredients, and is perfect for sandwiches, dressings, and sauces.

The origin of the word "mustard" comes from two Latin words, mustum ardens, which means "burning must" because in ancient times mustard was prepared with unfermented grape juice. This word then gave rise to the word "mustard" in English. Mustard plants are close relatives to broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, and cabbage. All parts of the mustard plant are edible: The leaves of the plant, known as mustard greens, are delicious in salads when they are young and tender.

Croque Monsieur

This recipe is so delicious it tastes lke spring summer winter and fall all in one bite and once you have it you will never make pork chops another way again, so yummy blahh blahhh.
Croque Monsieur

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup whole milk - room temperature
  • 1 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 8 ounces aged cheddar or gruyere - grated
  • 2 tablespoons Cook's Pantry dijon mustard
  • 8 slices ham
  • 1/4 sweet white onion - thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Cook's Pantry dill slices
  • pinch nutmeg
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 croissants halved or 8 artisan bread slices

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Melt butter in small pot, add flour and cook stirring 2-3 minutes. Gradually add milk whisking until incorporated. Add pinch salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  3. Cook until thickened. Remove from heat, add ½ cup cheese and mix well to incorporate. Set aside.
  4. Spread dijon on both sides of Croissants or bread slices, add a slice or two of ham, next add onion slices then pickles, and sprinkle with a little more cheese.
  5. Close sandwiches and place on parchment lined baking sheet.
  6. Drizzle cheese sauce evenly over top of sandwiches and sprinkle with last of cheese. Place in oven 5-7 minutes until golden and bubbly. Serve immediately.

Dijon Vinaigrettes

INGREDIENTS

Lemon Dijon Vinaigrette

  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons Cook's Pantry Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon shallot - minced
  • 1 small garlic clove - minced
  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon honey
  • Pinch sea salt and freshly ground pepper

Balsamic Vinaigrette

  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar (red wine or apple cider)
  • 1 teaspoon Cook's Pantry Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove - minced
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Pinch sea salt and freshly ground pepper


DIRECTIONS

  1. In a small bowl combine lemon juice, vinegar, Dijon, garlic, salt and pepper. Slowly whisk in olive oil until smooth. Taste and adjust to desired taste.
